WHAT
Independent Artist Month™, commonly referred to as I.AM., is an annual campaign held during July that celebrates and amplifies the voices of independent artists across the United States and beyond. I.A.M. was created to recognize the creative, cultural, and economic contributions of artists who produce, distribute, and promote their work outside of major commercial platforms or corporate systems.
WHY
The idea for Independent Artist Month was born out of a desire to unify and uplift the often-overlooked contributions of independent creatives. It emerged from grassroots music communities and digital collectives seeking to push back against the mainstream gatekeeping that dominates much of the entertainm
Launched formally in 2025, I.A.M. began with a national call-to-action led by independent singer, songwriter, and producer Myron, alongside other respected voices in the soul and R&B space. The goal was to turn the month of July into a time of reflection, recognition, and celebration for those making music from the heart, on their terms.
I.A.M. also intentionally overlaps with Black Music Month (June) and International Independent Artist Day (August 3) to build momentum for underrepresented voices.
HOW

1. Buy the Music.
Set aside $10 a week and own something. Vinyl, downloads, merch — whatever fuels the next creation.
2. Share the Vibe.
Post the playlist, tag the artist, and tell the world what their music means to you.
3. Tip the Artist.
CashApp, Venmo, PayPal — a small gift goes a long way when you're funding your own dream.
4. Support the Platforms.
Tune in to the indie radio shows, music podcasts, blogs, and digital magazines that spotlight independent voices.
5. Show Up and Engage.
Follow, like, comment, subscribe. Build the momentum. Be part of the energy.
